That depends on how much packing capacity you're willing to sacrifice. Complicating matters even further, every airline has different definitions of what constitutes a carry-on. We recommend visiting your airline's website for specific details on luggage size and weight regulations.
The Federal Aviation Commission (FAA) offers a slight clarification to this conundrum. Their regulations stipulate that a carry-on bag should be small enough to fit under the seat or in the overhead bin. As a general rule, this works to about 45 linear inches-approximately 22" long for domestic flights and 20" long international. Fortunately, many carry-on pieces are surprisingly spacious. But if you're on the road for more than a few days, you might want to invest in a larger upright.

The simple answer would be to pack just what you need-no more, no less. But this isn't always the easiest thing to do. In many cases, it's better to pack safe than sorry. If you just happen to be a naturally heavy packer, have no fear-there is help. Pick up a set of lightweight luggage.
What you may not know is that the majority of a bag's weight is in the frame. Keep an eye out for light-as-a-feather frames constructed of polycarbonate or graphite (that's the same stuff they use in golf clubs and tennis rackets). You'll travel easier, faster and more nimbly than ever before.

When it comes to luggage, the best policy is to always handle with care. But inevitably, dirt does happen-an exploding bottle here, a muddy puddle there. Use this quick care guide to bring new life to your world-worn luggage.
NYLON, POLYESTER AND CANVAS
Eliminate stubborn stains with a nylon scrubbing brush and a grease-cutting cleanser mixed with water. Don't knock yourself out-standard dishwashing soap should work just fine.
LEATHER
Visit your local shoe or luggage-repair shop and pick up a bottle of leather cleaner. Follow the instruction just as if you were cleaning a pair of boots or your favorite leather jacket.
HARDSIDE
The beauty of plastic is that stains don't stick around long. Simply scrub with an all-purpose cleaner and watch as your luggage regains that like-new luster.

While plenty of traditional options are still available, a veritable rainbow of vivid colors is available for your consideration. Bright, fun colors-pinks, purples and reds-have become extremely popular in recent years for two essential reasons. Not only do they cater to more sophisticated sensibilities and personal styles, they're also easy to spot on a crowded luggage carousel.
If you love your black luggage, there are still ways to make it stand out in a crowd. Try attaching a brightly colored ribbon or distinctive luggage tag to the handle. Even a colorful piece of reflective tape inconspicuously stuck to a bag's bottom will help you identify your belongings right away.
