Anthill Root Beer Floats
Serves 8
Gale grew up loving root beer at the drive-in. When she became a pastry chef, she concocted her own secret recipe made with cinnamon bark, fresh ginger, and real vanilla. It was so popular with customers that she began bottling and selling Gale's Root Beer nationally. "It's a little more grown-up tasting than the average brew," says Gale, "but kids love it, too-especially when you add ice cream and top it off with a sprinkling of chocolate 'ants,' just for fun."
Ingredients
1 quart vanilla ice cream
3 (12-ounce) bottles Gale's Root Beer (or 1 quart other root beer), chilled
8 teaspoons chocolate sprinkles (jimmies)

Directions

For each float, put two 1/4-cup (2-ounce) scoops of ice cream in an 8- to 10-ounce glass. Using a skewer or toothpick, make a hole in the center of the top scoop that looks like the hole ants crawl into and out of in an anthill. Scatter about 1 teaspoon of sprinkles over the ice cream. Slowly pour about 1/2 cup (4 ounces) root beer down the side of the glass until it is nearly full. Serve with an elbow straw and a long spoon.
